Saganaki – breaded cheese with salad
White cheese (brine cheese, feta cheese) also tastes good on its own. When fried and breaded, it has both a crispy and soft texture and is ideal as a delicious snack or a spicy addition to a fresh salad.
Ingredients
3 tbsp | breadcrumbs |
1-2 tsp | Zatar spice mixture (thyme, sesame seeds, oregano, black cumin seeds) |
some | dried Nane mint |
some | hilli flakes (Pul biber) |
2 tbsp | flour |
1 | egg, whisked and beaten |
200g | Beyaz peynir (white cheese) cut into 4 equal slices |
3 tbsp | extra virgin olive oil |
- | seasonal lettuce |
1 tbsp | lemon juice |
some | salt |
some | ground black pepper |
4 tbsp | extra virgin olive oil |
Preparation
1
Mix breadcrumbs with spices. Place flour, egg and breadcrumbs in 3 separate dishes. Dip the cheese in flour, then the egg and finally in the breadcrumbs.
2
Heat the olive oil in a frying pan. Fry the breaded cheese pieces on each side for 4-5 minutes until golden-brown. Drain on kitchen towels.
3
Toss lettuce in dressing and place in a large bowl. Drape the cheese pieces over the lettuce.
